Black Friday - Let's Go Shopping!!!

It's the time of year where thousands of people, like me, start making their lists for the shopping spree known as BLACK FRIDAY! Some may say we are crazy to get up before dawn just to fight the hoards in the freezing cold. But I say it's a competition and only the strong get the best deals!

In order to get the best deals there are few things you need to know...

1. Walmart is your friend. Walmart will price match other stores' sale items. There are a few stipulations though. They won't match precentages off. If Target's ad says Barbies are 50% off they won't do it, but if the ad says Barbies are $3.99 then you are good. Also check the time of the sale for the ad you are trying to match. If the item is on sale all day Friday, Walmart will start price match it starting at 12:01AM Friday, but if it doesn't go on sale until 7:00AM you can't get a price match until that time. And the items MUST BE THE SAME THING. If Target's ad is for Malibu Barbie you can't get All-Star Barbie.

2. Make a plan and stick to it! Go through the ads and make a list of all the goodies you hope to get. And if you do some price matching you may be able to avoid some stores all together. You'll spend less money if you stick to your list. You can start looking at all the ads now, just google Black Friday Ads.

3. Divide and conquer. Go with with a group and make sure someone has the job of standing in line. About 5-10 mins after a store opens the lines begin and it’s nice to have someone standing in it already once you’ve battled your way from the back of the store.

4. If you can, ditch the cart. You’re faster without it. Carts make it hard to manuver through crowds of people. We’ve all been shopping when you can’t get down an aisle because of people with shopping carts in the way…now imagine that times 20!

5. Best Buy isn’t worth it! Unless there is absolutely something you can’t live without, don’t bother. You have to be there at 12:00AM, if not earlier, to get the REALLY good deals and they only have a limited number of them. Do you really want to camp out all night for $60 off a blu-ray player only to find out they ran out?

6. Most importantly, have fun! Yes, I consider this a competitive sport and enjoy the battle to get last item on the shelf, but I won't trample someone to get it. I might elbow them though...hehehe.

HAPPY SHOPPING!!!

this post is awesome! thanks for all of the tips! I have thought about going this year; I have never gone before, but I need to do some checking out of the ads to see if there is anything I will get. I think I will definitely go next year in Salt lake though!

A tip to add, strollers are the BEST to use instead of carts! They are made to maneuver easily, and you can really pile them high! Absolutely agree with having someone stand in line, Reilly used to do that for me, she'd just go get right in line and let people go in front of her when she got to the checkout, until I got there. Awesome, you can spend hours in line if you go alone. Also, bring some hot chocolate in a thermos to drink while you wait in line. WalMart is definitely the best place to shop, I can be in and out (by myself even) in less than 30-45 minutes (that includes time in line, usually they have every single checker open).

On a side note, I haven't gone since '07, people have just gotten so rude that it wasn't fun anymore, though I would still get up and go to WalMart, though not this year since I'll have a 3 day old...

If I ever do black friday, I think I'll refer to this post and Lyndsay's comments. I'll probably try it someday, maybe when I live closer and can go with family.
