Lion! Oh My

Syd is famous...well she got her pic on the local news website.  That's her in purple.  The accompanying story is after the break.

IDAHO FALLS - Westside Elementary was supposed to celebrate in the International Walk to School program Friday.

But the morning's mountain lion sighting in west Idaho Falls changed plans a bit.

Idaho Falls Mayor Jared Fuhriman and Miss Idaho Falls Kelsie Roper greeted kids at the front door before they were quickly brought inside as a precaution of the animal sighting.

The purpose of Friday's event was to build awareness about the benefits of safely walking and bicycling to school and to get some exercise.

"It's wonderful because they're all excited about this; they brought canned goods in to help those in need and they're doing a great service for the community," says Idaho Falls Mayor Jared Fuhriman.

"We're celebrating fitness and wellness and my platform is childhood obesity so this goes right along; we're just encouraging the kids to get out there and get active," says Kelsie Roper, Miss Idaho Falls.

Even though plans changed and there wasn't much walking, students were still able to get active indoors.

An impromptu assembly was held indoors with dancing and fun.

How random, a mountain lion? As Rees would prefer to say, a puma.
