Honu!!!!!

Turtles were probably my favorite thing about Hawaii. I absolutely feel in love with them. So much so, I’m doing my bathroom in sea turtles. (I blew up a couple pics I took and am having them printed on canvas to hang on the wall)

Anyway, I heard there were Green Sea Turtles and was determined to see them. I had no idea how cool they would be and how MANY we would see. There was one beach (just a beach where surfers hang out, not a reserve area) where the turtles liked to swim in the surf. At first they were kind of hard to see. The first time we went down there, we saw a couple heads pop up out of the water but we weren’t sure if they were turtles or not. But they were! We went back to the beach everyday. You can see below there’s a few turtles in this shot.

It was really cool because as the waves would come in you could see about 10 turtles in the wave. I tried to take pictures and video of it; this was the best I could get.

Here’s a bigger turtle that I swear was so still I thought he was dead. We were able to get really close.

On the final day, I decided I really wanted to see if we could swim with them. Unfortunately, the current was strong and the waves were hard to swim against, PLUS the water was SO murky we couldn’t see anything.

Just as we turned back to go to shore and were about to give up I ran into this and let me tell you…it scared me to death! Seriously it was like seeing a sea monster. He was HUGE!!

Paul was scared enough that he didn’t go back under the water. I on the other hand thought it was super cool and swam with him for another hour I think. I took MANY pics but with the waves and water and the fact he was moving, they aren’t that great. Here’s the best of the best and the one good video. Actually the video is really cool…at least I think so. If you watch real close you’ll see two turtles.
